Sadly, there is nothing we can do about this particular case. The word is what it is, and the software will mangle it until it learns to properly interpret hyphens. Unlike real hyphenation, however, in the case of em-dashes, we do have the opportunity to help the software out a little. As I mentioned before, in print typography there are no spaces surrounding dashes. Let’s take a look at this example.
